Service Description

Our Detection Program is designed as a step-by-step learning experience for both dogs and handlers. Each Lab builds upon the skills learned in the previous section, creating confident detection teams that understand not only how to find odor, but how to work together in real-world environments. The Start of a Three-Part Progressive Scent Work Series. Private 3-Hour Foundations Package (Prerequisite to The Game of the Hunt) The Foundation Lab is a private, one-on-one introduction to the game of scent work. This package is designed to teach both the dog and handler how the game is played while building the confidence and understanding needed before entering a group learning environment. Your 3-hour package is divided into two sessions. Session One 2 Consecutive Hours • Conducted in Your Home The first two hours are completed back-to-back during a single appointment. During this immersive session, you and your dog will begin building the hunt together while learning the mechanics that make scent work successful. Topics include: Introduction to the scent work game Building hunt drive and motivation Teaching the dog how to search Handler timing and reward placement Search presentation and hide progression Reading changes in behavior while in odor Developing confidence for both dog and handler Personalized homework plan to continue practicing Session Two 1-Hour Follow-Up • Public Readiness Evaluation After completing your homework, you'll meet with your instructor for a one-hour follow-up in a public environment. During this evaluation we will: Assess homework progress Evaluate both dog and handler as a team Confirm understanding of the scent work game Ensure readiness for group instruction Recommend additional private coaching if needed before advancing Prerequisite Dogs that have not previously completed an LMK K9s Training Assessment must complete an assessment before enrolling in The Foundation Lab. Upon successful completion, teams are eligible to continue into The Game of the Hunt.
