Service Description

The LMK K9s Open Obedience Class is a flexible, real-world training environment designed to meet teams exactly where they are. This class is intentionally structured as an open format, allowing handlers and dogs to work on any aspect of foundational obedience while actively training through the Ds of dog training—distance, duration, distraction, difficulty, and diversity of environment. This class is FREE for LMK K9s Members, creating a high-value incentive to join and stay engaged in ongoing training. Non-members are welcome to attend with a monthly drop-in fee, but members gain priority access, consistency, and long-term progression at no additional cost. What New Teams Will Learn For newer clients and dogs, Open Obedience focuses on building a strong training foundation that supports future success in group classes, real-world outings, and advanced work. Foundational skills may include: Marker timing and reward placement Engagement and focus around distractions Leash handling and communication clarity Sit, down, stay, recall, and place foundations Impulse control and neutrality around dogs and people Understanding arousal, thresholds, and energy management Handlers receive coaching tailored to their dog’s current level, making this an ideal entry point for those looking to develop clarity, confidence, and structure. Why Seasoned Teams Love This Class For experienced handler-dog teams, Open Obedience serves as a proofing and sharpening environment. Advanced teams act as controlled distractions—also known as anchor teams—while simultaneously challenging their own skills. This class allows seasoned teams to: Proof obedience around unpredictable variables Increase distance, duration, and handler neutrality Strengthen off-leash reliability and impulse control Train through real-world distractions in changing locations Refine handler mechanics and timing under pressure The rotating class locations between Venice and Parrish, FL intentionally add environmental diversity, helping teams generalize behaviors beyond a single setting. This class is ideal for: Dogs needing consistent obedience practice Handlers wanting coaching without rigid lesson plans Teams preparing for advanced classes or real-world reliability Members looking to maximize training value and consistency Train with purpose. Proof with intention. Empower reliability—together.
