Odor Foundations 2: The Game of The Hunt

Your dog has discovered that odor is rewarding—now it's time to teach them that the game can happen anywhere. In this four-week continuation of our Odor Foundations program, teams will travel to a new location each week to build confident, independent hunting skills in real-world environments. Dogs will learn to generalize odor across a variety of settings while developing persistence, environmental confidence, and problem-solving abilities. Rather than relying on familiar training spaces, teams will begin searching parks, sidewalks, grassy fields, parking lots, and other unique environments where scent behaves differently every day. While the dogs are learning to hunt, handlers will learn something equally important—how to read their dog. Throughout the course you'll discover how to recognize your dog's unique changes in behavior while working odor, understand what they're communicating during a search, and develop effective search patterns that support your dog's independence without unintentionally influencing the hunt.
